Clear Aligners: The Discreet Way of Straightening Your Teeth

Feb 01, 2021

At Northwest Prosthodontics, we have an array of treatments designed to fix bite-related issues. One of the common treatments that you can expect is clear aligners in Calgary, AB.

Since their invention, traditional braces have been synonymous with orthodontic treatment. However, the appearance of metal braces made many adults shy away from the treatment, thinking that teenagers and children are best suited for it.

Clear aligners near you were specifically designed with adults in mind. It’s ideal for anyone who desires to have an aesthetically appealing orthodontic treatment that is also comfortable and convenient.

Clear Aligners: What Are They?

Clear aligners, also known as clear braces, invisible braces, or invisible aligners, are an orthodontic treatment that is designed to correct crooked or misaligned teeth. Invisible aligners are inconspicuous and hence the reason why they are gaining so much popularity. They are convenient and flexible, things that most adults desire in a busy world.

Clear aligners in Calgary are customized for every patient, typically depending on the severity of the misalignment. Even though clear aligners are an excellent option, they aren’t suitable for everyone. This is why you need our dentist’s help to determine what options are appropriate for your needs.

Who Can Get Clear Aligners?

Clear aligners near you are designed to fit snugly over your teeth. This means that it can be tricky to fit a child with clear aligners since their teeth are still developing. They are generally more suitable for adults and teenagers.

Generally, clear aligners are an ideal treatment for people who are experiencing mild to moderate issues such as:

  • Crowded teeth
  • Open bites
  • Diastemas (gaps)
  • Overbites
  • Underbites

How Do Clear Aligners Work?

Clear aligners operate under the same principle as conventional braces. They will move your teeth bit by bit over time. Here is a detailed view of how the process goes:

Creating the Treatment Plan

During your initial consultation, you will have a digital scan to get a precise digital duplicate of your mouth. After gaining this information, Dr. Adatia will create a detailed treatment plan. This will involve a projection of how and when your teeth should move.

You will get to see the preview of how your new smile should look like once the treatment is complete.

  • Aligners Fabrication

After your impressions have been made and the plan is in place, the digital scan of your teeth will be sent to the treatment facility. After this is done, Dr. Adatia will transfer the digital scans to the fabrication facility to create a series of aligners. Once they are fabricated, they will be delivered to our office.

  • How to Use the Aligners

Once the aligners have been received, Dr. Adatia will give you your unique sets of aligners. For the aligners to give the desired results, you need to wear them at least 20 to 22 hours a day. Each set of aligners should be worn for 10 to 14 days.

With each set of aligners, you can expect your teeth to move to a certain position. The treatment generally takes anywhere from 6 to 24 months, depending on the severity of misalignment.

  • After Treatment

After your teeth have moved into the desired position, Dr. Adatia will give you a retainer, which you will wear at night. The purpose of wearing retainers each night is to ensure that your teeth don’t move back to their former positions.

Benefits of Using Clear Aligners

Clear aligners boast of the following advantages:

  • High aesthetic appeal since they are virtually invisible
  • They are convenient since you can remove them and wear them at will
  • You can get to eat your favorite meals since they are removable
  • They are easier to clean than conventional braces

As you can see, clear aligners are an excellent way of dealing with bite issues. If you need clear aligners in Calgary, AB, contact Dr. Adatia at Northwest Prosthodontics.
